Location: Auburn, AL Client: Auburn University Architect: Houser Walker Architecture Size: 37K SF Contract Value: $20M
The scope of work includes a comprehensive renovation of Comer Hall, a building originally built in 1910 and reconstructed in 1922 after a fire destroyed the interior wood structure. In 1922, the interior was rebuilt with a concrete structure.
The building is four stories and just under 40,000 SF. The renovation will include treatment of the historic building envelope to restore the existing materials and replace the existing non-historic aluminum windows.
The exterior improvements also include ADA access to the front entrance. On the interior, the double-loaded corridor remains, with new masonry openings to improve functionality. Two stairs will be replaced by a new entry stair serving the first through third floors. A new elevator will also be added, along with new restrooms. The renovation work also includes all new mechanical, electrical, fire protection/alarm, and plumbing systems.
The campus hot water loop will also be brought to the building and replacement of the medium-voltage equipment and a new generator.
