Bailey-Harris Construction recently launched Bailey-Harris Academy, a year-long leadership and technical training program designed to prepare assistant project managers and assistant superintendents for promotion to project manager and superintendent roles.

The program includes eight in-person sessions throughout the year, beginning with an introductory course and pre-test and concluding with a final exam. Each session combines technical instruction from Bailey-Harris senior leadership with leadership development led by LEAD Advisors. Participants study company values, communication, and practical lessons drawn from real projects.

The idea for Bailey-Harris Academy grew from a need that the construction industry has faced for years.

“The original idea for Bailey-Harris Academy came actually from Russell Harris,” said Richard Lovelace, vice president of training and development. “During the 2008 and 2009 financial crisis, a lot of people left the industry because they couldn’t find work in construction. Now that we’ve got an abundance of projects, there’s a severe shortage of competent people to take the place of all those who left.”

Recognizing the talent already within the company, Bailey-Harris developed the program to help assistant project managers and assistant superintendents build the skills needed for the next step in their careers. Working alongside LEAD Advisors, the company created a structured curriculum that prepares participants for promotion through classroom instruction, discussion, and practical application.

For those taking part in the inaugural class, the investment goes beyond technical training.
